Will give you all the full run down of PARKing Day soon with some pics but wanted to just share something….

so I have been in the store again a lot more lately and it’s really great to discover new things about this business that I hadn’t really thought about before.

I love the way parents can double park outside whilst small children come in with money, get their disc and leave. The kids get a kick out of it (especially if it is picking up something they rented for themselves) and so do I! Kids so love engaging in the grown up world….. remember when it was a novelty to hand money over to a stranger? !

PARKing Day Next Friday - 19th Sept - all day

Monday, September 15th, 2008

For those of you who get our newsletter you may have read about PARKing Day. It’s a one day global event we are getting involved with. The idea is that you take a parking space normally reserved for a car for the day and turn it into a “park”, helping show just how much space a car takes up and what that space could be used for. It will help spread the good alternative transport word and we are doing it in conjunction with the Darebin City Council’s “Love Living Local” campaign.

For more information about PARKing Day visit www.parkingday.org

The Leader wanted to do a story so we set up a mock park for an hour the other day outside the shop. It attracted a lot of attention and we are really looking forward to the big day next Friday. We are setting up

  1. Outside APPLEBOX - Badminton players encouraged to come!
  2. Outside the Community Centre on Station St

So come and drop in on one of our parks, say gidday!

It also coincides with the start date of our Home Delivery trial….. (I must be MAD!) But I guess it all ties in with greener practices and alternative transport.

:)

Wow… what an amazing film on so many levels. I purposefully didn’t find out much about this film before watching it. I often read and hear too much about films and as soon as I know they are heavy or intense I use the ol’ not in the mood for something heavy excuse. So I took a deep breath and took it home and glad I did. Amazing story of human dignity, courage & communication. Brilliant cinematography with effects that put SFX companies to shame (all done old school - true artistry with the camera). This film takes you on quite a ride that will leave you feeling a little ashamed of those stupid things you got cranky about today!!

Write Off!

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Heard a dull thud this morning .. didn’t think anything of it until my neighbour hammered on the front door and yelled out ‘your cars been hit!’. And yep .. it’s been hit alright. Written off in fact. My beloved Golf GTi Mk II is completely mangled. I fell in love with the Mark 2’s when I lived in the UK in the early 90s. 2 litre 16 valve, GTi setup .. I remember hoot’n around London streets in one and it was a blast. The Mk II was a modders dream. The platform was so good VW themselves did a factory fit supercharged model (the G60) which was the apple of everyone’s eye. And yeah, the Peugot 205 GTi was hot as well, but I liked the golf. Back in Aus I revisited my windsurfing roots and bought a Mitsubishi L300 so I could keep all my gear inside and sail after work. I couldn’t afford the 4WD version so I whacked some big arse tires on (had to grind back the guards so they’d fit) and floated around Adelaide for a few years in that. But coming to Melbourne and then with a child on the way .. was time to get me a normal car .. a Mk II! Unfortunately in Oz we got the watered down version - 1.8l, 8v - but I had to own one so I got it. And what a l-e-m-o-n that happened to be! 2 gear boxes later, and with every service centre I knew scratching their heads going .. gee it’s very different to the Mark III huh? I still loved driving it. RIP old friend.

PS. the guy who hit me did a runner but left his bumper behind, licence plate intact! gotcha ..
