Fairfield is GO!

OK! Our posters are up! Yippee! 17a Railway Place folks.

Posters are UP!

That’s me! Great job Sare - the posters look fantastic. The shop won’t be open for another few weeks - still got to get the cabinetry in, all our DVDs barcoded and our systems bedded down.

It’s a bit hard to tell from the photo, but the shop is SMALL. About 36 sqm. Thats a HUGE contrast to the size of a typical video store, which can be 100 sqm plus. We figure we can give people a better service, better catalogue, better in-store experience AND reduce our overheads at the same time. We pick up overheads in other areas (software development, server hosting and equipment) but these can be rationalised across a number of stores.

We’re pretty excited about the location. Railway Place is fantastic! Michael has JUST opened his cafe - Bean Counter - on the opposite corner. With a light airy feel, great outdoor space, and a view over to the restored weatherboard train station (early 1900s), its the nicest cafe in the area I reckon (and you’re away from the nightmare that Station St has become). I had my first poached eggs on sour dough with coffee this morning & he passed with flying colours! Not bad for an ex accountant. Get on down there and eat some food.

Bean Counter

And above the Bean Counter is the David Johns art gallery. David digitally prints onto canvas - quite amazing. His current exhibition The Smoking Gun is a number of film noir inspired stills that tell a “story of romance, tragedy, despair and revenge” - check it out.

Walked past your store this morning on the way to get a coffee from Bean Counters. You’re branding looks great and caught my eye. Now I’ve done some wandering around your website and I reckon the concept is a winner. Can’t wait to rent my first movie without having to spend half an hour wandering around the local video ezy like a zombie!

    Thanks John!

It’s been a crazy weekend as we’re surrounded with thousands of DVDs whilst trying to do a stocktake. Gotta stick on barcodes, scan in discs, check the details, eat chocolate. And when we read your comment we let out a whoop! Nice to have someone ready for us on the other side :-)

Cheers and see you in the shop!

    Hey Guys,

Like John I just noticed your awesome branding and walked across to check out the go. I live just round the corner so you’ll definately be getting some business from me.

I’m a bit of a tech head as well so I’ll be following your online services with great interest as well.

Looks like you’ve got a great market pegged out, good luck for the future and keep up the blogging it’s such a great thing to be able to find when following on from seeing your store front.

    Thanks Ben,

Great to have caught your eye. Branding is never easy, and try it on a budget! I’m lucky to have Sarah on board who can see what works. And with inspiration from her Sydney connection, Ben (he came up with the look), the outcome has been fantastic.

There’s lots of good tech stuff underpinning everything here. Will be pushing out some tech posts in the future, so keep checking back!
