First Buyer’s Group Meeting
Went to our first buyer’s group meeting today. We are hooking up with the Leading Edge Video group - they give us their buying power, but still let us trade with our own branding. Seems pretty good to me.
It was good to meet other store owners! We might be new, bright eyed & enthusiastic, full of promise and with technology at our fingertips - but there’s still plenty of old school lessons about retail and renting demographics.
We haven’t really laid the APPLEBOX concept out to everyone, and I think most of the owners would consider it warily. I think the proof will be in the execution - gotta walk the walk!

I like the demo. It struck me that even though you’re creating a store and have great ideas for that, you might have a bigger impact licensing your technology out to others in a way similar to how http://www.bookingangel.com (and similar tech providers) is changing the restaurant booking process.
I can imagine that a few years from now that a lot of independent video stores and a few video chains around the world are using your technology to present their live stock online.
We looked at doing a 3D version of a video store a while ago and so I love what you’re doing. AJAX techniques have really breathed so much life into rich experiences via the web browser. Unfortunately 3D flash is still very primitive so we’ve created our own browser that supports 3D so we can achieve these sorts of 3D immersive experiences (www.vastpark.com).
Oh, by the way, you weren’t mentioned in http://lagrangepoint.typepad.com/lagrange/2007/05/next_its_web_ta.html but you certainly deserve to get in the list.

Hi Bruce - thanks for your comment! Yep, licencing the technology is something I will be looking into. A 3D video store would be great fun! Very immersive. In the back of my mind I’ve thought I’d like to try something in second life, good to see VastPark is also out there doing stuff.
Yep - I would love to get on Brad Howarth’s list - wow - I just read his article in the Age whilst on a coffee break today! You are on top of things. Perhaps I’ll send him a link …
